The S&P 500 was flat at 2,081.88 in midday trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.3% to 18,079.75, and the Nasdaq also rose 0.3% to 4,779.59.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.5% to 2.27%.
The price of gold dropped 0.4% to $1,173.60.

Shares of First American Financial Corp. were up 2% to $34.31, following Tuesday’s reach of a new 52-week high. The Santa Ana-based company has $3.7 billion in market capitalization. Analysts at SunTrust recently raised their price target on First American shares from $35 to $42 and noted a “buy” rating on the stock. Analysts at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Inc. downgraded First American shares from “outperform” to “market perform,” while increasing its price target to $34.50 from $33.
TECHNOLOGY
Aliso Viejo-based chipmaker Microsemi Corp. is up 1.3% to $28.61 and $2.7 billion in market capitalization. The company recently announced that one of its services was recognized by online electronics-focused publication EE Times as a “Top Tech” company at Electronica 2014, a biennial international trade fair for the electronics industry.
