The S&P 500 fell 0.27% to 1,949.85 in midday trading Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.46% to 16,636.14 and the Nasdaq fell 0.19% to 4,444.61.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 2.67% to 2.34%.
The price of gold was down 0.74% to $1,305.90.
HEALTHCARE
Anaheim-based auto-immune drug maker QuestCor Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up 1.7% to $93.60 and a market capitalization of $5.6 billion. Its shareholders approved the sale of the company to Dublin-based pharmaceutical company Mallinckrodt Plc for an estimated $5.8 billion in cash and stock. Mallinckrodt will join the S&P 500 from the S&P MidCap 400 and with the acquisition QuestCor will be dropped from the S&P SmallCap 600 and the shares will not be traded after the market closes today. Mallinckrodt was up 2.5% to $72.67 and a market cap of $4.15 billion in recent trading.
TECHNOLOGY
Irvine-based software maker TigerLogic Corp. fell 6.3% to $1.20 and a market cap of $36.2 million. It reported a net loss for the quarter ended June 30 of $3.4 million compared to $2 million in the same period last year.
