The S&P 500 declined 0.09% to 1,955.13 in midday trading Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.15% to 16,881.27, while the Nasdaq was down 0.33% to 4,348.61.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was down 0.27% to 2.61%.
The price of gold was up 2.66% to $1,306.50.
EDUCATION
Santa Ana-based Corinthian Colleges Inc. was down 64% to $0.32 and a market cap of $27 million. The company said it faced a cash crunch that could prevent its continuing as a “going concern.” The U.S. Department of Education said it would delay access to student aid funds because Corinthian hadn’t fully cooperated with an investigation into its school’s marketing practices and job placement claims.
FINANCE
Irvine-based consumer automobile finance firm Consumer Portfolio Services Inc. was up 2.3% to $7.80 and a recent market cap of $193.5 million. It said it closed on $202.5 million in automobile receivables, the first it had offered with AAA ratings from Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s.
