The S&P 500 fell 0.12% to 1,948.16 in afternoon trading Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.16% to 16,916.13, while the Nasdaq was down 0.05% to 4,333.88.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 1.54% to 2.64%.
The price of gold was up 0.57% to $1,261.
APPAREL
Quiksilver Inc. was up 2.56% to $4.00. Three insiders—CEO Andrew Mooney, CFO Richard Shields and Director Joseph Berardino—bought 210,000 shares after the stock cratered last week on poor earnings. No insiders had purchased Quiksilver in the previous 18 months. The stock has risen 18% since Friday, regaining $75 million in market cap, to a recent total of $673.4 million.
HEALTHCARE
Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up 2.06% to $5.45. This morning the company reported positive results from a Phase IIIb clinical trial of an investigative intra-nasal product for migraine treatment. It said fewer than 2% of trial participants had to drop out. The company counted a recent market cap of $879 million.
