The S&P 500 rose 0.23% in afternoon trading Wednesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.57% to 16,494.69, while the Nasdaq was down 0.97% to 4,041.12.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 0.27% to 2.59%.
The price of gold slipped 1.51% to $1,288.80 per ounce.
HEALTHCARE
San Clemente-based medical device maker ICU Medical Inc. was up about 4% to $56.45 after reporting quarterly results Tuesday that beat analyst expectations. ICU had a recent market value of $851.83 million.
EDUCATION
Shares of Santa Ana-based Corinthian Colleges Inc. continued their fall from Tuesday, down about 12% to $0.96 for a market value of $83.31 million. Corinthian said it hired Barclays to “explore strategic alternatives” and also said it is seeking a waiver after breaching some of its loan covenants.
CLEAN TECHNOLOGY
Newport Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. was down about 6% to $8.75 for a market value of $786.24 million. The company is expected to report first-quarter results on Thursday.
