The S&P 500 dipped 0.1% to 3,473.72 in midday trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.3% to 28,405.21, while the Nasdaq fell 0.8% to 11,568.87.
Crude oil dropped 1.5% to $42.73 a barrel.
Gold fell 1.4% to $1,926 an ounce.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury surged 8% to 0.742%.
TECHNOLOGY
Costa Mesa-based Veritone Inc. (Nasdaq: VERI) fell 8% to $8.54 a share with a $236 million market cap. Shares for the company, which is trying to break into the artificial intelligence for media market, have fallen 31% since the start of the month, but are still nearly three times their price at the start of the year.
Irvine-based Alteryx Inc. (NYSE: AYX) continued to rise in Thursday midday trading following sharp gains on Wednesday. Shares for the data analytics software maker increased 2% to $121.82 and a $8 billion market cap. Shares jumped nearly 10% on Wednesday, marking the biggest increase since shares sank 28% Aug. 7 after the Irvine data analytics software maker warned of “significant headwinds” to the company’s business in the coming quarters.
REAL ESTATE
Shares for Aliso Viejo-based New Home Company are off 5.8% to $4.20 and a $77 million market cap, continuing this week’s downward trend for the homebuilder’s stock. The company posted an 18% share increase last week and have since leveled off, with the price down 7% since Monday. Shares are also down about 7% since the start of the year.
