Stock indexes climbed even as a new jobless claims report showed 1.1 million workers filed for benefits last week, indicating layoffs remain elevated.
The S&P 500 rose 0.1% to 3,377.92 in midday trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.1% to 27,715.70, while the Nasdaq ticked up 0.6% to 11,208.87.
Crude oil declined 1.1% to $42.44 a barrel.
Gold fell 1% to $1,951.
The yield on a 10-year bond decreased by 5.1% to 0.64%.
TECHNOLOGY
Irvine-based Alteryx Inc. (Nasdaq: AYX) rose 3.5% to $113.92 a share with a $7.5 billion market cap. The data analytics firm’s shares are still down about 32% since its second-quarter report, which showed slower-than-expected sales growth.
Allied Esports Entertainment Inc (Nasdaq: AESE) saw its shares tick up 5% to $1.89 with a $55.2 million market cap. The Irvine-based firm yesterday said it had a record 1.6 million views on its Twitch channel during a six-day Riot Games event.
HEALTHCARE REAL ESTATE
San Clemente-based CareTrust REIT Inc. (Nasdaq: CTRE) was up 2.9% to $18.69 a share with a $1.8 billion market cap. Volume at the real estate investment trust was about a fourth of the daily average of 888,196 during the past three months.
