Investors were awaiting relief bill news from Washington and more earnings results after the close of trading, pushing major indexes slightly higher.
The S&P 500 was up 0.1% to 3,297.87 during midday trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.4% to 26,759.49.
The Nasdaq rose less than 0.1% to 10,910.14.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 8.5% to 0.515%.
The price of gold increased 1.4% to $2,014.50.
The price for a barrel of oil rose 1.5% to $41.62.
REAL ESTATE
Foundation Building Materials Inc. (NYSE:FBM) of Santa Ana rose 8.4% to $16.15 per share for a market cap of $699 million. The distributor of wallboard, ceiling systems and other building products on Monday announced second-quarter earnings per share that beat analyst estimates by 12 cents. Sales fell 13% to $486 million year over year while income from continuing operations was off 33% due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
HEALTHCARE
OncoCyte Corp. (NYSE: OCX), the Irvine-based designer of a lung cancer test, rose 17% to $1.86 per share for a market cap of $125.4 million. Analyst website OracleDispatch.com said earlier in the day that the company “has strung together solid data and demonstrated underlying fundamentals. At its current valuation, OCX represents an interesting risk/reward case.”
