Stock indexes fell as China said it would impose tariffs on more U.S. products and President Trump told U.S. firms to look for alternatives to doing business in China.
The S&P 500 fell 2% to 2,865.46; the Dow Jones Industrial Average 1.8% to 25,778.33; the Nasdaq 2.5% to 7,793.33.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond plunged 6.5% to 1.51%.
The price of gold rose 2% to $1,538 an ounce.
The price of oil dropped 3% to $53.71 a barrel
TECHNOLOGY
Skyworks Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq: SWKS) in Irvine was down 4% to $73.84 and a $12.6 billion market cap. Shares in the chipmaker are up about 20% year-to-date.
TTM Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: TTMI) fell 5% to $10.18 and a $1.1 billion market cap. The printed circuit board maker added several senior executives this week.
