The S&P 500 was up 1.1% to 2,659.67. The Dow Jones Industrial Average 1.2% to 24,227.98, and the Nasdaq 1.5% to 7,194.81.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.2% to 2.95%.
The price of gold was 0.1% higher to $1,315.
HEALTHCARE
Spectrum Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: SPPI) in Irvine was up 5% to $16.63 and a $1.7 billion market cap. The maker of drugs to treat cancer and blood disease beat Wall Street estimates on sales and earnings.
RESTAURANTS
El Pollo Loco Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: LOCO) in Costa Mesa was up 5% to $10.35 and a $400 million market cap. The fast-food chicken chain beat Wall Street estimates on sales and earnings.
Del Taco Restaurants Inc. (Nasdaq: TACO) in Lake Forest was up 4% to $11.24 and a $432 million market cap. The Mexican-themed fast-food chain reported higher revenue and net income.
SERVICES
Willdan Group Inc. (Nasdaq: WLDN) in Anaheim was down 3% to $28.03 and a $249 million market cap. The engineering services company said contract revenue declined 20% to $54.6 million.
