Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 was down 0.2% in midday trading to 2,293.37.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.1% to 20,079.86.

The NASDAQ was flat at 5,656.26.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 0.8% to 2.48%.

The price of gold fell 0.2% to $1,188.00.

FINANCE

Banc of California Inc. in Irvine was down 2.9 % to $14.95 and a $743 million market cap. Activist investor Legion Partners Asset Management LLC in Beverly Hills said the bank holding company should consider a sale of the company. FBR & Co. upgraded its shares to “outperform” but said a sale is likely if changes to corporate governance do not narrow its discount to its peers.

TECHNOLOGY

Santa Ana-based Universal Electronics Inc. was down 3.5% to $59.55 and an $871 million market cap. Shares in the universal remote control maker have dropped about 15% in the last two trading sessions.
