The Riverside County Transportation Commission awarded a $25.9 million, three-year contract to Irvine-based Cofiroute USA for an all-electronic tolling system for an extension of the 91 Express Lanes that connects Orange and Riverside counties.
The scope of work includes “integration of in-lane equipment, back office software, camera and video systems and an expanded customer service center.”
The project is part of the $664 million widening of SR-91 to a seven-lane freeway. The job will be done by a joint venture of Guy F. Atkinson Construction, LLC of Golden, Colo., and Walsh Construction Co. in Chicago.
Gary Hausdorfer, Cofiroute USA’s president and chief executive, said that the new contract was the result of the company’s 10-year “history of operating the 91 Express Lanes and its experience with sophisticated, proven systems for delivering efficient, effective customer experiences and timely, accurate account service.”
“We are very proud to be a part of the RCTC team and helping to reduce congestion along the SR-91 Corridor,” Hausdorfer said.
Cofiroute USA is a subsidiary of French civil engineering company VINCI Autoroutes, which reported $56 billion in revenue for 2013.
