Santa Ana-based Freedom Communications Holdings Inc. has set April 16 as the launch for the Los Angeles Register and more than a dozen community newspapers covering cities in Los Angeles County.
Single copies of the daily will be sold at 7,500 retail locations and news racks for $1.50 weekdays and $2 on Saturdays and Sundays. Home delivery will cost “under $1/day and $19.99 for an initial four week subscription,” according to Freedom.
“Los Angeles is one of the most exciting, engaging, mysterious and newsworthy cities on the planet—full of promise, challenges and everyday heroes,” Donna Wares, managing editor the Orange County Register and the LA Register, said in a news release. “Los Angeles deserves a newspaper dedicated to revealing that amazing local narrative. That’s our mission. That’s what the Los Angeles Register will strive to deliver every day.”
Long Beach residents who subscribe to the Long Beach Register will begin receiving copies of the LA Register. The Long Beach Register currently is a six-day-a-week local section sold along with the OC Register at news racks and retail locations. The Long Beach section also is delivered to residents of the city who subscribe to the OC Register.
Freedom said it also plans to launch a dozen new monthly community newspapers serving “specific towns within Los Angeles County—from Manhattan Beach to Malibu, and from the San Fernando Valley to Pomona.” Additional details on newspapers’ names and cities they serve will be released in the upcoming weeks.
