Retail ‘Boot Camp’ Ahead of NAMM

The National Association of Music Merchants plans a “Retail Boot Camp” for music retailers on the day before its Jan. 22-25 show at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The Carlsbad-based nonprofit said in a statement that the full-day schedule on Jan. 21 in the Anaheim Hilton’s California Ballroom is open to current association members and will cover topics that range from sales and back-office operations to customer service and social media.

NAMM expects 325 people at the boot camp.

The association said other activities slated for Jan. 21 include a media preview, meetings of international NAMM members, and exhibitor setup.

NAMM estimates countywide economic impact for the five days at $91 million.

The show is the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau’s largest event, with 95,000 attendees and 1,500 to 1,600 exhibitors.

NAMM expects 300 new participating companies and more than 550 international companies in 2015.

The show is also slated to include an appearance by Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak and 45 “Idea Center” presentations by industry leaders.

President and Chief Executive Joe Lamond said NAMM wants to “provide relevant and high-value education for our members.”

NAMM said it has 9,200 member companies in 99 countries in a $16.7 billion international music products industry, with $6.8 billion of that in the United States.

The show has been held in Anaheim since 1978. It’s booked at the convention center through 2018, the bureau said.
