John Wayne Airport spokesperson Jenny Wedge plans to take a similar role at destination marketer Newport Beach & Co.
Wedge, the public information officer and public relations manager at the airport, will leave her post Thursday to begin duties as senior director of media relations and brand management at the travel promoter.
“Tourism has a significant impact on Orange County and I’m looking forward to spending more time promoting this year-round destination,” Wedge said.
She said the county plans to make an internal hire but didn’t know when a search would be completed.
Wedge has been the chief spokesperson for the airport for just more than 10 years. Prior to that she worked in media relations for the Orange County Water District in Fountain Valley.
She said, “I’ll still be interacting with a lot of the same people,” due to the relationship between the airport and travel.
