JWA Traffic Up In January

John Wayne Airport passenger traffic rose 0.3% in January to 819,000 compared with the same month last year.

There were about 23,000 flights to and from the OC airport in January, a 9% dip from January 2018.

Commercial flights in January increased 2.7% to about 7,500. Commuter flights, or scheduled flights on planes with fewer than 70 seats, surged 509% to 350 flights in January when compared to the year prior, largely due to JetSuiteX, a semi-charter service that began in the summer.

General aviation, which accounted for about 65% of total aircraft operations in January, dropped 15.5% to 15,000 when compared with January 2018.

International passengers totaled 14,000 on 150 flights for the month, down about 6% each.

The three busiest airlines in January by passenger count were Southwest Airlines at 284,000; and American Airlines and United Airlines, each of which flew about 130,000 passengers.
