Apex Parks Group LLC Chief Executive Al Weber, Jr. died Tuesday, Nov. 8 while on vacation in the British Virgin Islands.
Weber had led Aliso Viejo-based Apex since forming it in November 2014. It owns and runs 17 amusement parks in six states. Its local locations include Boomers entertainment centers in Irvine and Fountain Valley.
Several company executives expressed condolences to Weber’s wife Bonnie and their family, and described Weber as a respected friend, energetic mentor, and an innovative, gifted leader.
Apex launched with the purchase of 15 parks from Palace Entertainment Holdings LLC in Newport Beach, which Weber had previously led.
The company has focused on smaller, non-gated properties near tourist areas and including older sites with adjacent land and opportunity for renovating, upgrading, and expanding offerings.
Weber previously served as chief operating officer and interim chief executive at Six Flags Entertainment Corp. in Grand Prairie, Texas, as part of a career that spanned five decades.
