John Wayne Airport passenger traffic increased 6% year-over-year in August to 991,000 people; year-to-date passenger numbers are up 5.5% to 7.2 million.
There were about 4,100 flights in the month, up 4%; year-to-date flights are up 3.5% to about 30,600.
International passengers in August were 21,000 on 90 flights, up 3.7% and 2.2%, respectively. Year-to-date flights were down 16% to about 700.
The three busiest airlines in the month by passenger count were Southwest Airlines with 355,000; American with 158,000; and United Airlines with 158,000.
