15-Story Hotel Tower OK’d

Costa Mesa’s Avenue of the Arts Hotel is set for a 63% expansion in room count following city planning commission approval on Nov. 28 of a new, 15-story tower adjacent to the existing property.

The project will add 150 rooms to the current count of 238.

The tower replaces a previously approved 23-story, 100-unit condominium project at the site, which is located next to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts complex.

A 6-story parking structure with 335 spaces will replace a 3-story structure with 364 spaces as part of the new development plans.

Hotel-owner Rosanna Inc. is an affiliate of Hong Kong-based developer Wincome Group. Affiliates of Wincome also own the Anabella Hotel near Anaheim Convention Center and Anaheim Plaza & Suites near Disneyland Resort.

Two new hotels totaling 1,210 rooms for those sites were approved by Anaheim City Council in July.

Avenue of the Arts formerly flew a Wyndham flag and switched to Starwood’s Tribute Portfolio earlier this year; it’s now in the Marriott system after Bethesda, Md.-based Marriott International Inc. bought Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in Stamford, Conn., in September for $13 billion.
