Tsaos Earn HOF Nod

Orange County entrepreneurs Victor and Janie Tsao will be inducted into the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame at a special event in Manhattan next week.

The couple who founded Irvine-based Linksys Group Inc. will be honored with a team award for creating the first consumer class computer router that connected multiple PCs to networks and the Internet.

The Tsaos have kept a low profile since they sold Linksys to Cisco Systems Inc. in 2003 for $500 million, largely building the foundation that placed the power couple among the county’s wealthiest residents.

Cisco sold the home networking group last year to Belkin International Inc. in Playa Vista on undisclosed terms, but the price was estimated to be far less than what the Tsaos got for the company that was perhaps best known for developing the now-defunct Flip video-camera.

Victor Tsao is big on mentoring entrepreneurs in the U.S. and China, where both of the Tsaos were born.

Janie Tsao heads the Corona del Mar-based Tsao Family Foundation, which focuses on religious, education and human services.

The couple run Miven Venture Partners in Newport Beach.
