Solar Servicer Buys in Berkeley

MaxGen Energy Services LLC in Costa Mesa has acquired on undisclosed terms the commercial services unit of Next Phase Solar Inc. in Berkeley.

MaxGen Energy, formerly Solarrus Corp., provides operations and maintenance services to solar power distributors, electric vehicle charging stations and battery storage sites.

Next Phase provides operations and maintenance services to solar equipment makers and contractors. Next Phase was a unit of publicly-listed Enphase Energy, Inc. in Petaluma.

The buy adds some 1,000 sites to MaxGen’s current portfolio of 3,000 managed sites in the U.S.

“Technicians (will) spend less time traveling and more time onsite ensuring equipment uptime and high quality plant operations,” said MaxGen Chief Executive Mark McLanahan.

MaxGen is a portfolio company of private equity firm Oaktree Capital LP in Los Angeles. The investment firm manages over $100 billion in assets and focuses on alternative investments.

MaxGen employs 40 locally and 200 firmwide.
