Software Maker Gets $5.5 Million

Irvine-based software maker YouMail Inc. has raised $5.5 million in a Series B funding round, the company announced this morning.

YouMail will use the proceeds to expand operations, and its digital services that it said has attracted more than 6.5 million customers. The company provides caller identification, automated call blocking, personalized smart greetings, automatic replies, cloud storage, and access to messages, call routing and other features through iPhone and Android apps, and a web browser.

The company benefited from provisions in the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, a federal law that went into effect last year, allowing companies to market private placements through online channels to attract a mix of institutional investors, family offices, private investors and other groups.

YouMail has secured more than $20 million in funding since its launch in 2007. Prior backers include Irvine-based Tech Coast Angels, Vantage Point Capital Partners, the Crunch Fund and Wavemaker Ventures.
