The Fountain Valley automaker said it’s now offering the ability for drivers of its vehicles to opt into a feature through its Blue Link in-vehicle connectivity system that can monitor individual behaviors related to factors such as speed or distance that could impact auto insurance discounts and premiums.
The data and analytics being captured through Hyundai’s Blue Link system is being provided by Verisk Analytics Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSK). The company, with a market cap of $29.6 billion, is an analytics provider for companies in the insurance, energy and financial services industries.
Drivers that choose to participate in the program do so through a Driving Score feature in Blue Link that offers a weekly score from 0 (worst) to 100 (best). All Hyundai vehicles beginning with the 2018 model year come with Blue Link.
Adding the feature is particularly timely with demand for transparency in pricing and the supply chain growing from consumers for everything from what they wear to, now, insurance.
Hyundai Digital Business Planning and Connected Operations Executive Director Manish Mehrotra pointed out “owners expect this kind of technology.”
Allied Market Research reported the market for usage-based insurance at $28.7 billion globally in 2019.
