Irvine-based chipmaker Microsemi Corp. was cleared Monday by a federal trade watchdog in a patent lawsuit it was named in by Santa Clara-based 02 Micro International Ltd., according to reports.
The International Trade Commission’s Judge James Gildea ruled that Microsemi and Taiwan’s Asustek Computer Inc. didn’t violate an 02Micro patent for fluorescent lamps and chips that are used in laptop screens, according to a Reuters report.
He also ruled that that “no domestic industry existed” that used the 02Micro patent named in the complaint, the report showed.
The commission plans to issue a final ruling in August.
Microsemi, which had a recent market value of $1.4 billion, is set to report first-quarter results on Thursday.
Analysts, on average, expect Microsemi to report profits of $22 million, up about 37% from a year earlier. Sales are seen coming in at $117 million, up 11%.
Microsemi makes chips for military, aerospace and industrial uses.
