Irvine-based Insteon said its line of connected home devices is compatible with Google Assistant-enabled products, such as Google Home speakers and select Android and Apple smartphones.
The news came before the official launch today of CES in Las Vegas, the world’s largest consumer electronics trade show. Voice assistants and activated devices will be a major trend at this year’s gadget fest, highlighted by Google’s return to the CES showroom floor for the first time in years.
Customers with an Insteon hub can link their Google Home App or Google Assistant accounts from their smartphones. After pairing, they can start using voice-control features.
The hub allows users to operate Insteon’s line of connected products through an app or web browser. Products include switches, outlets, thermostats and light bulbs, as well as devices made by other manufacturers. Its technology relies on wired home systems and radio frequencies for wireless connectivity, allowing devices to communicate with each other.
Insteon is a unit of Smartlabs Inc., which was acquired in July by Richmond Capital Partners on undisclosed terms. Rob Lilleness, managing partner and founder of the Seattle-based private investment firm, took the top post at Smartlabs after the deal.
The Business Journal estimates Smartlabs’ annual revenue exceeds $200 million.
