GSA Nod for Cryotherapy Co.

Newport Beach-based cryotherapy chamber manufacturing firm Cryo Innovations has been awarded a government contract through the General Services Administration to provide its product to veterans and military personnel.

Cryotherapy exposes the body to extreme cold—minus 220 degrees Fahrenheit—for short periods of time, and is used to reduce inflammation and promote recovery from tissue damage.

Benefits can include immediate relief from joint and muscle pain, improved energy, and better sleep quality.

The company was launched in 2016 by founder Keith Scheinberg.

Under the GSA contract, Cryo’s XR cryotherapy chambers will be available in certain veteran hospitals, on military bases, and any government installation.

The company also has contracts with Gold’s Gym, and several other fitness and tanning franchises for its cryotherapy machines.

The company has 15 employees, and was initially funded by OC investors, but Scheinberg said the company will do nearly $5 million in sales this year.

He said he started the company after a national report of an unsafe cryotherapy product elsewhere on the market, which led to a fatality.

“The lack of supervision and the absence of safety measures turned this cryotherapy experience into a death trap,” he said.

His company’s main product, the XR, has eight or more on-board sensors “ensuring the maximum safety of your customers,” according to the company’s website. The XR uses liquid nitrogen, which it says is “the most effective method in delivering cold therapy.”
