Elton John to Headline Anniversary Concert for Yamaha at Disney During NAMM Week

A concert to celebrate Yamaha Corp.’s 125th anniversary will feature singer and songwriter Elton John and coincide with the National Association of Music Merchants’ annual trade show that’s scheduled for Jan. 24 to 27 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The concert will be held Jan. 25 at the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Ad-venture in Anaheim. It’s sponsored by Buena Park-based musical instrument and audio-visual company Yamaha Corp. of America in honor of its Japan-based parent company.

John will perform on a Yamaha Disklavier piano, with a 70-piece orchestra accompanying him. The concert will be streamed live online and shown in various venues around the world. Remote Disklavier pianos in various locations will recreate his actual piano keystrokes.

The anniversary concert will be produced by Nashville, Tenn.-based Yamaha Enter-tainment Group of America, a subsidiary of Yamaha Corp. of America.

“Elton John is one of the most successful and influential music makers of our time, and Yamaha is thrilled to bring him to a global audience in this history-making manner,” said Chris Gero, vice president of Yamaha Entertainment Group of America. “This exciting event will also demonstrate how Yamaha DisklavierTV is forever changing the way in which a live piano concert can be enjoyed in real time around the world.”

Japan-based Yamaha Corp. had $4.3 billion in revenue in its fiscal year ended in March. The company doesn’t break out revenue for Yamaha Corp. of America, which has about 320 employees in Orange County.
