San Clemente’s Stance Sold to Marquee Brands of New York

Joins portfolio that includes Martha Stewart, Ben Sherman, BCBG and Body Glove.

Stance, the San Clemente apparel firm that turned socks into a fashion statement, has been acquired by Marquee Brands, a New York-based company whose portfolio includes Martha Stewart, BCBG, Ben Sherman and Body Glove.

Marquee said the addition of Stance brings its total retail sales to $4.5 billion.

As part of the transaction, Marquee said it tapped United Legwear and Apparel Co. as Stance’s global licensee, overseeing design, development, retail and e-commerce across all markets except China.

“We are thrilled to welcome Stance into the portfolio as an established cultural touchpoint known for bold design, creativity and collaborations with athletes, musicians and artists,” Heath Golden, CEO of Marquee Brands, said in a Nov. 19 statement.

The deal’s value was not disclosed.

Jeff Kearl, John Wilson, Aaron Hennings, Taylor Shupe and Ryan Kingman co-founded Stance in 2009 – using fabric innovation to position its socks as a form of personal expression.
