OC Automakers Beat U.S. Sales

All four Orange County-based automakers met or exceeded the national sales pace for new vehicles in November, according to New Jersey-based market researcher Autodata Corp.

U.S. auto sales were up 1.4% for the month, adding 1.31 million cars and light trucks, and are on track to reach 18.19 million for the year.

Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley, with 60,007 units sold, was up 11.8% from a year earlier. Sales of the South Korea-based Hyundai Motor Co. subsidiary are up 5.6% so far this year to 698,202 cars and SUVs.

Kia Motors America Inc. in Irvine, part of Hyundai Motor Group, reported selling 45,553 cars and SUVs, up 1.4%. It was its best November since arriving to the U.S. in 1994. The automaker’s year-to-date sales total 571,577, up 6.9%.

“Kia continues to grow and mature at a rapid rate, and surpassing the six million vehicles mark as we push toward a strong finish to the year is the latest example of how far this brand has come in a very short period of time,” Michael Sprague, Kia’s chief operating officer and executive vice president, said in a statement.

Mazda North American Operations in Irvine was up 7% to 22,732 vehicles. The automaker’s year-to-date sales added up to 289,890, up 3.2% from same 11-month period last year.

Cypress-based Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. sold 6,772 vehicles, up 3.6%. It has sold 87,455 so far this year, a 23% uptick over the same period in 2014.

U.S. auto dealers have sold 15.8 million vehicles so far this year, a 5.4% increase compared with the same period last year.
