Consumers are slowly starting to make their way back to The Lab Anti-Mall in Costa Mesa, with the center open again.
There’s only so much time a person can spend being a homebody, LAB Holding LLC CEO Shaheen Sadeghi told the Business Journal this month.
“We’re all hardwired for social and people can only stay in their homes for so long and order food from their homes for so long,” he said. “We’re seeing our customers and community come back.”
Sadeghi said it’s been a mix so far in terms of consumers following social distancing and face covering protocols, with some more lackadaisical than others.
“What’s interesting is we’re seeing a nice, strong comeback, and I guess I’m a little bit surprised,” Sadeghi added.
Local Focus a Boost
The concept of buying local and supporting small business, of which The Lab and Sadeghi’s retail concept Seed People’s Market are centered on, is only going to continue as consumers become more conscientious of their spend.
“Our Seed retail store, it’s products with a purpose,” he said. “We’ve believed in that for a decade.
“Our company is LAB, Little American Business, so it’s this localization, personalization, customization as opposed to homogenization I really think that’s going to continue. It’s [current events] probably expedited the situation quite honestly.”
