Nordstrom Out at MainPlace

Nordstrom Inc. in Seattle said it plans to close its department store at MainPlace Mall in Santa Ana in March. The closure will affect about 195 employees.

The retailer is the largest tenant at the 1.1 million-square-foot mall, leasing about 169,000 square feet, according to CoStar Group Inc. data.

“We’ve enjoyed taking care of customers at MainPlace for 29 years, but believe our other nearby locations will better serve them longer term,” Jamie Nordstrom, president of stores for Nordstrom, said in a statement.

The company is currently completing a major renovation of its South Coast Plaza location in Costa Mesa, Nordstrom said.

Its Orange County portfolio also includes stores at Fashion Island, Irvine Spectrum Center, Brea Mall, the Shops at Mission Viejo and seven Nordstrom Rack locations.

Dallas-based Centennial Real Estate Co. owns MainPlace, which has about 200 tenants and reported $280 million in taxable sales for the year ended June 30. Its other larger tenants include Macy’s, JCPenney and Ashley Furniture.
