Irvine-based Silver Star Casting Co., a maker of clothes inspired by mixed martial arts, has been acquired along with Grand Terrace-based TapOut LLC for undisclosed terms.
New York-based Authentic Brands Group LLC, which owns other clothing brands, bought Silver Star and TapOut.
The deal adds two mixed martial arts brands to Authentic Brands, which also owns Hitman Fight Gear and Iron Star.
Silver Star has yearly sales of about $20 million. The company has about 85 workers in Irvine.
Luke Burrett, who has run the company with wife Charis, started the business in the 1990s.
Silver Star has grown an average of 150% a year for the past four years, due mainly to the booming popularity of Ultimate Fighting Championship, a sport that combines various fighting techniques.
The company sells T-shirts, hats, hoodies, jeans, jewelry and accessories at Macy’s, Champs Sports, Dillard’s, Foot Locker, Pacific Sunwear, Ross and Buckle.
Burrett, a former auto detailer, and his wife, Playboy’s Ms. February 2003, were honored in November with a Family Owned Business Award from the Business Journal and California State University, Fullerton’s Family Business Council.
