Tofu Maker Pulmuone Boosts OC Presence

Pulmuone Foods USA Inc. is continuing its expansion in Orange County, with the increase of its office footprint in Buena Park.

The Fullerton-based company, which calls itself the world’s largest tofu manufacturer, this month more than doubled its office space at Buena Park’s Village Business Park to 13,725 square feet.

The move runs counter to the downsizing trend followed by other office tenants in OC and across the country, due to remote work.

“Pulmuone has seen accelerated demand in recent years as more consumers become interested in plant-based and Asian-inspired products,” Pulmuone Foods North America General Manager K.S. Cho told the Business Journal. “This has fueled our growth and led to an increased footprint in the area.”

On the global scale, the tofu market has seen an uptick in demand over the past few years. The industry was valued at $2.8 billion in 2022, growing to nearly $3 billion last year. The market is expected to reach $4.4 billion by 2031, rising at a compound annual growth rate of 5.2%, according to market research firm Skyquest Technology.

Pulmuone, whose brands include Nasoya and Wildwood, touts a large presence in OC, including an 89,315-square-foot manufacturing center in Fullerton.

The company in 2021 expanded the facility to double its global production capabilities, adding 110 workers to keep up with operations.

Locally, the Fullerton factory expansion increased the company’s monthly local production rate by over 50%, from 2.4 million units per month to 3.7 million units per month.
