Irvine-based food manufacturer and distributor Golden State Foods Corp. is planning to spend about $40 million to build a meat processing plant in Alabama.
The facility will be in the Northeast Opelika Industrial Park and will create 173 jobs, according to Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller.
Golden State Foods, which specializes in the fast-food industry, serves more than 125,000 restaurants and stores around the world.
Its customers include McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A and Taco Bell.
It’s also among the largest private companies with headquarters in Orange County, with $6.4 billion in revenue in 2013, about 60 employees in Orange County and some 4,600 companywide.
