A 465,000-square-foot corrugated box-producing plant in Buena Park run by Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific LLC will close by Sept. 1, the company said.
Company executives met privately with the roughly 150 employees at the facility on Jan. 19 to deliver the news, said Julia VanDeWater, manager of manufacturing communications.
The company is shuttering the plant for efficiency reasons; Georgia-Pacific operates similar ones nearby, including one in La Mirada, VanDeWater said.
“Our strategy is to be profitable.”
Georgia-Pacific plans to meet with union representatives of hourly employees and had already met with salaried employees to discuss severance packages and job placement options.
Georgia-Pacific is owned by Koch Industries in Wichita, Kan.
