One of just 30 estates on Harbor Island in Newport Beach sold on April 29 for $16.5 million, down from its March asking price of $17.5 million.
The estate, at 27 Harbor Island, designed by Orange County architect David Holman, brings “Eastern seaboard” design to the residence’s 6,500 square feet.
The five-bedroom, seven-bath home has an open floor plan that encourages a social atmosphere. Double French doors lead to the waterfront patio, and the manicured grounds provide a pathway to a private dock that accommodates two boats of up to 50 feet in length each.
The master wing offers unobstructed views. The great room flows into the dining room, and the chef’s gourmet kitchen has Walker Zanger flooring.
Tim Smith had the listing, and Georgina Jacobson represented the buyer. Both are with Coldwell Banker Previews International.
On the ‘Gold Coast’
The bayfront estate at 37 Linda Isle in Newport Beach sold for $12 million on April 22.
The home, originally listed in November for $13.9 million, is 6,300 square feet and features unobstructed views of the main channel and turning basin.
The contemporary design includes a grand foyer with a two-level bronze waterfall. Disappearing doors off of the living area facilitate indoor-outdoor living. The master suite has an adjacent exercise area.
The home, on what locals refer to as “the Gold Coast,” has four bedrooms and 5 ½ baths and features interior design by Orange County-based Scott Van Dyke.
Georgina Jacobson of Coldwell Banker Preview International held the listing, and Sylvia Tino of Estrada Properties was the buyer’s agent.

It’s All in The Details
The 8,200-square-foot estate at 26 Shoreline in Newport Coast, situated at the end of a private cul-de-sac in Pelican Point, fetched a March asking price of $8 million. The sale closed on May 1.
The Santa Barbara-inspired home blends classic Spanish-style architecture with high-end design finishes, including stone and tile work by Concept Studios.
The main level sports intricate woodwork throughout, as well as imported tile and wood-beam ceiling treatments. It has a chef’s kitchen, and the subterranean floor includes a fully equipped gym and a five-car garage.
It also has heated floors, a Lutron lighting system and an elevator.
The grounds include a loggia, fire pit, outdoor kitchen, and lap pool with spa, as well as coastline views.

Tuscan-Inspired Home With Vineyards
The Shady Canyon estate at 30 Blue Heron sold for $6 million on April 23.
The 6,548-square-foot, five-bedroom, 6 ½-bath home blends Tuscany and California design for the feel of a private retreat.
The property has views of city lights, Saddleback Mountain and the Shady Canyon golf course. A pool and spa, cabana and outdoor shower complete the setting.
The asking price for the home in August was $7 million.
Jacqueline Thompson represented the seller, and Chris Valli represented the buyer. Both are with Surterre Properties Inc.
Architectural Pedigree
The contemporary home at 6 Rockingham Drive in Newport Beach fetched $4 million in a sale that closed May 1. The original asking price in December was $4.5 million.
The home was designed by Southern California architect Ed Giddings, whose residences and office buildings are prominent on the Southern California coast. Giddings, standouts are the Ocho Cascadas in Puerto Vallarta, and Cascadas de Baja in Cabo San Lucas, both pre-eminent Mexican resorts.
The main level features a grand entry leading to the ocean-view living room. Unique architectural touches include raised fireplaces, marble floors and mahogany-framed glass walls, windows and doors.
The 7,982-square-foot home has five bedrooms and 5 ½ baths, plus a dry sauna in the master bath. It has a spacious study, a family room, a wine room, large gourmet kitchen and formal dining room.
The tropical landscape features patios, waterfalls, an outdoor spa, as well as a grilling area and fire pit. It’s close to Fashion Island, University of California, Irvine, Newport Bay and Newport Pier, and beaches.
