LAGUNA BEACH

An office building is nearly done on Pacific Coast Highway near Vista Del Sol. Developer Tim McFaddden is looking to sell the 2,500-square-foot building to doctors or other professional services providers. The building cost $2.5 million to develop and went up on vacant land that was bought for $1 million. Mike Dorsey from Santa Ana-based Grubb & Ellis Co. is handling the sale of the building.

A retail building is being remodeled on Pacific Coast Highway near Thalia Street. The 2,600-square-foot building is being redesigned to blend in with nearby art galleries. Laguna Beach-based Horst Architecture is handling the design. Los Angeles-based Finton Construction is the general contractor. Construction is expected to take about a year.

DANA POINT

A clubhouse is under construction at The Strand at Headlands, a luxury home development on Pacific Coast Highway. The clubhouse is set to include a pool, dining area and spa. It is on the north side of the development, which has 118 home sites on 121 acres. Thirty-three of the oceanfront lots have been sold so far, with a few homes built. The clubhouse is set to open at the end of the year. It was designed by Mark Singer, an architect who designed or remodeled several homes in neighboring Laguna Beach and has been hired to design some homes at The Strand. The next phase of development calls for a 90-room hotel on the development’s south side.

NEWPORT BEACH

The city is preparing to build a new Civic Center on MacArthur Boulevard and San Miguel Drive. About 100,000 cubic yards of dirt have been removed to make way for a parking structure, which is set to start construction this fall. The next phase of the project is scheduled to start early in 2011 and calls for a new city hall building, a 16-acre park and an extension of an existing library. Pasadena-based C.W. Driver is the general contractor for the project. The city expects to solicit bids from subcontractors in November after finalizing plans by October. The entire project is slated for completion late in 2012. Initial estimates put the project’s cost at $128 million. City officials still are deciding what to do with the existing city hall a couple of miles away.

Renovations are under way at St. Mary & ALISO VIEJO

All Angels School on Aliso Creek Road. Several rooms will be repainted and fitted with new doors, floors and windows. Additional construction calls for the restructuring of the preschool and the expansion of the multipurpose room. The project includes energy-efficient lighting and an irrigation system that only waters when needed. The school also plans to put in new landscaping, which accounts for about a third of its land area. The landscaping includes a fruit and vegetable garden to be used for educational purposes. The project is expected to be done in early September. The project manager is Newport Beach-based Resource Management Inc. Modular Space Corp. of Pennsylvania is the contractor. Claremont-based Braeger Con-struction is in charge of landscaping.
