2014 Sales End on Satisfying Note, 2015 Starts Strong

Seventeen homes in coastal Orange County closed for $4 million or more between Dec. 1 and the week ending Jan. 8, according to public records and the Redfin website.

Three of the sales came in Laguna Beach. Two homes in Newport Coast closed for more than $7 million each. Turtle Rock had two sales during the time period, both for more than $5 million.

And two homes sold in Corona del Mar, one for nearly $9 million.

Other home-sale highlights during the period include:

Golden Dreams

The 8,862-square-foot, Mediterranean-inspired custom estate at 50 Golden Eagle in Irvine boasts a 1-acre lot nestled against the low hills of Shady Canyon.

The estate sold on Dec. 24 for $7 million after just more than three weeks on the market. Its Dec. 1 list price was $7.95 million.

A swimming pool, spa, professionally landscaped garden, and multiple outdoor seating areas create ample space for entertaining. Inside, the five-bedroom, six-bath home offers beamed ceilings, a family room, home theater, study/office, and a wine cellar, plus an elevator that connects all three levels.

Jacqueline Thompson of Surterre Properties Inc. represented the buyer and seller in the all-cash transaction. The buyer is a local business professional.

Puttin’ on the Ritz

The oceanview estate at 41 Ritz Cove Drive in Dana Point sold for $6.3 million on Dec. 26, under its November list price of $6.9 million.

Bob Wolff of Harcourts Prime Properties represented both sides of the transaction.

The estate, which sits next to the Ritz-Carlton resort, has five bedrooms and four baths and is 5,500 square feet. It sits on more than a quarter-acre lot.

The home boasts more than $1 million in upgrades and remodeling, including a custom-designed kitchen with stainless-steel appliances and a double oven, two pantries, and a stone-topped center island.

The grounds include a heated swimming pool, a spa, and barbecue, as well as seating for outdoor entertaining. The property also has gated direct access to Salt Creek Beach Park and the ocean.

Exquisite Elevated Estate

An elevated three-quarter-acre lot in Shady Canyon is the site of the 7,471-square-foot estate at 46 Copper Creek in Irvine.

The home features six bedrooms, seven baths, a bonus room, family room, home theater, and a temperature-controlled wine cellar.

The estate sold on Dec. 31 for $5.5 million, off its December list price of $5.7 million.

Outside, the new owners have a central, professionally-landscaped courtyard and an eight-car subterranean garage, as well as a swimming pool and spa.

Jacqueline Thompson of Surterre Properties represented the seller, and Cathy Cheng of ReMax 2000 Realty worked on behalf of the buyer.

Eastern Seaboard on West Coast

The custom estate at 1800 Tahuna Terrace in Corona del Mar was built by Spinnaker Development. The style brings to mind an Eastern Seaboard home, with details that include cedar shake siding and black shutters.

The transaction closed on Dec. 29 for $5.1 million, under its August list price of $5.5 million.

Inside, the 5,571-square-foot home boasts coffered ceilings with tongue-and-groove panels; French oak flooring; art-quality chandeliers; plantation shutters; and remote bamboo shades.

It has four bedrooms and five baths, as well as a gourmet kitchen with side-by-side Calacatta marble islands; an office with custom built-ins; formal and casual dining rooms; and a media room with surround sound.

Outside, the home has a landscaped yard with a flagstone patio, swimming pool, spa, and cabana area with a stone and wood fireplace.

John Cain and Kathryn White of HÔM Sotheby’s International represented the seller, and Ryan Gunderson of Abrams Coastal Properties worked for the buyer.

Hollywood in Newport

Newport Beach is the site of the Hollywood Regency-style bayfront home at 73 Linda Isle, which sold on Jan. 5 for $4.9 million, off its July list price of $5.5 million.

Steve High of Villa Real Estate held the listing, and Kimberlee Drake of HÔM Sotheby’s represented the buyer.

The five-bedroom, 4½-bath home is 4,503 square feet. It was designed by architect Robert L. Earl, who has built custom estates for business professionals, investors, celebrities and others throughout the United States, Mexico, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

The home also features a private pier and slip that can accommodate a boat up to 70 feet and a side tie.
