The Women of Chapman’s holiday luncheon, the 26th Annual Christmas at The Ritz, raised $188,355. The money will help support Chapman programs.
More than 300 people attended the event, which was held at the Ritz Restaurant and Garden in Newport Beach.
Women of Chapman, made up of 230 members, recently set up a $1 million Student Filmmaker Endowment, which funds senior film projects for students at Chapman’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
Among the team that helped put on the event were: Kim Smith, event chair; Kathy Hamilton, president of Women of Chapman; committee members Donna Bianchi, Adrienne Brandes, Karly Brown, Donna Bunce and Sue Hook, among others.
Some of the major underwriters included Sally Segerstrom, Donna and David Janes, Donna F. Calvert and Sally and Randy Crockett.
Walk to Cure Diabetes
The Orange County chapter of JDRF in Irvine raised $800,000 at its annual Walk to Cure Diabetes.
The money will go toward funding research for improved treatments, prevention and a cure for Type 1 diabetes and its complications.
Sponsors included John Patterson, owner of OC Auto Team (Huntington Beach Mazda, Tustin Mazda, Tustin Hyundai), Cercacor Laboratories Inc., California Bank & Trust, Dorsey & Whitney, Masimo Corp. and many others.
Pretend City’s Gala
Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine raised $435,000 at its first annual gala held at the museum in Irvine.
More than 200 people attended the Vintage Hollywood Gala event, including board members Bill Lyon, Alex Airth, Anne Marie Moiso Leonard, Chad Horning and Jill Bertea.
Tijuana Dogs provided dance music.
Corporate sponsors included Applied Medical Resources Corp., Burkhalter Kessler Clement & George LLP, Fidelity National Title Insurance Co. and others.
Sole’s Shoe Giveaway
Sole Technology Inc. hosted its ninth annual holiday festival and shoe giveaway for 360 children in need at the etnies Skatepark in Lake Forest.
Chief Executive Pierre-André Senizergues was on hand, as well as a skateboarding Santa and etnies team athletes Nick Garcia, David Reyes, Aidan Campbell, Alex Midler and Chris Del Moro.
Kids got to hang out with etnies team riders and play carnival games.
Christmas Wrap
Hyatt Regency Newport Beach employees donated more than $500 in gifts to four families for the Adopt a Family Holiday Program.
Irvine-based Families Forward provided a wish list from the families and Hyatt Regency Newport Beach employees purchased gifts from the list and delivered them to Families Forward, which assists families in financial crises.
Gonzalez Gives
The Gonzalez family and Northgate Gonzalez Markets gave away toys at its 36 Northgate Gonzalez Market stores in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties. It was the 16th annual event sponsored by the Anaheim-based grocery chain.
South Coast Party
The Happiness Project and the Festival of Children Foundation co-hosted a holiday party at South Coast Plaza for children who live in local shelters and motels.
The organizations picked the children up and dropped them off at the mall for a party that included Santa, carousel rides and other activities.
Food donors included Boudin SF, Chick-fil-A, Corner Bakery, Quattro Caffé, Wahoo’s Fish Taco and zpizza.
Forever 21 donated accessories for gift bags.
Volunteers included Element skateboard rider Nyjah Huston and water polo Olympian Tumua Anae, along with 350 of the sons and daughters of the members of the Young Presidents’ Organization.
$10,000 for Food
UnitedHealthcare in Cypress donated $10,000 to help provide nutritious food during the holidays for people who live in Southern California.
The money supported meal programs at Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, Share Our Selves and Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.
