Chris Fox, a Laguna Hills teen diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease three years ago, was named the 2010 Honored Hero of Take Steps, an annual walk-a-thon held in late June. The event is put on by the local chapter of the New York-based Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. Fox has overcome years of misdiagnoses, medical procedures, hospitalizations and medications to recently graduate from high school. Fox is the son of the Carol Fox, an advertising account director at the Orange County Business Journal.
Daniel Callahan, managing partner of Callahan & Blaine in Santa Ana, received the Angelo Palmieri Award from The Robert Banyard Inn of Court, a professional group for lawyers. The award is given annually to a group member who represents the highest level of professionalism and ethics in the legal industry.
The Orange County Community Foundation presented the Power-Packed Philanthropist Award to Mark Moehlman, principal and cofounder of Newport Beach-based Wealth Management Network LLC. The award came with a $500 grant to the charity of his choice, which he gave to the University of California, Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business.
Orange County Transportation Authority Chief Executive Will Kempton was named one of the nation’s top 10 public works leaders by the American Public Works Association. The award is given to those who have shown dedication to improving their communities through public works.

Chapman University received the Educational Legacy Award from the Orange Public Library Foundation at its annual gala. Chapman University hosts free public events at the Orange Public Library and History Center to support the university’s art, music and drama programs.
Hope House Inc. in Anaheim received the County Alcohol and Drug Treatment/Recovery Award from the Program Administrators Association of California. The nonprofit group gives support and treatment for the homeless and people with drug addictions.
Pavilions grocery store in Newport Beach was named a top fundraiser by Easter Seals Southern California during Safeway Inc.’s charity campaign to benefit people with disabilities.
Children’s Bureau of Orange County gave board member Lori Irving the John and Donna Crean Legacy for Children Award for her contribution to child abuse prevention. She is vice president of insurance operations at Irvine’s Balboa Insurance Group, which received the Promise for the Future Award from the bureau. Discount Tire Centers and California Bank and Trust also were honored with Care and Compassion Awards.
The Cypress Chamber of Commerce named Midge Jones Woman of the Year. Jones is the financial services officer for Union Bank in Cypress. She is also a board member of the Cypress Boys & Girls Club.
Data management company Trace3 of Irvine received the Riverbed Technology Regional Partner of the Year Award. The company was recognized for its success in revenue growth and customer service.
Sheldon Blumling, a partner at the Irvine office of Fisher & Phillips LLP, was named in Chambers & Partners’ Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2009 for his expertise in employee benefits and executive compensation. The publisher ranks a list of top U.S. law firms and lawyers.
