Fundraisers and charitable donations from companies and people

Commercial Real Estate Women of Orange County’s annual “Hot Summer Nights” party raised more than $19,200 for WisePlace and Crew Foundation. WisePlace provides shelter, food, clothing and supportive services for homeless women. Crew Foundation is the giving arm of Commercial Real Estate Women of Orange County and seeks to promote opportunities for women in real estate.

Newport Beach’s Irrelevant Week, a tongue-in-cheek-celebration of the National Football League’s final draft pick, raised $30,000 for Goodwill of Orange County’s Fitness Center. The money will go toward helping people with physical disabilities and chronic illnesses.

Irvine-based Vizio Inc., which designs and markets digital TVs and related accessories, held a month-long drive to collect donations for soldiers. Vizio’s Operation Enduring Freedom raised $11,500.

An annual Children’s Cancer Golf Classic hosted by former baseball star Rod Carew raised more than $120,000 to benefit the Irvine-based Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. The money is set to help improve the care, quality of life and survival rate of children with cancer.

Irvine-based Moss Adams LLP partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County on the group’s “Big for a Day” program. Twenty local Moss Adams members sponsored a day at Boomers for 23 children waiting for permanent big brothers or big sisters.

Vita-Tech International Inc. in Tustin gave three tons of multivitamins to West Africa. The Lyceum Group and the University of California, Irvine’s Africa Initiative are set to distribute the vitamins.

The Eric Pepys Memorial Golf Tournament raised $65,000 for Orangewood Children’s Foundation. The money is set to fund the foundation’s advanced studies scholarship program, which provides former foster kids a chance to pursue advanced college degrees.

Alzheimer’s Family Services Center in Huntington Beach received a $10,000 grant from the Archstone Foundation in support of JumpStart, a program that helps those with early memory loss and their caregivers to cope with everyday challenges.

The Commercial Real Estate Development Association and the Center for Real Estate at UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business plan to give $7,500 to a master’s in business administration candidate who shows a strong interest in pursuing and excelling at commercial real estate.

Wells Fargo & Co. gave $1,000 to Orange County Children’s Therapeutic Arts Center in Santa Ana in honor of John Tran, a Wells Fargo business deposit consultant. Tran has been a volunteer with the center for more than two years and serves as treasurer and chairman of the finance committee.

Stephanie Gross, a former golf player at Villa Park High School, raised $600 to create a putting green and purchase golf supplies for Girls Inc. at its Costa Mesa location. The money was raised by Gross’ recent golf season in which she obtained sponsorships for every birdie and par.

Placentia-Linda Hospital employees packed and shipped 71 boxes of items for soldiers in Afghanistan as part of the Marine Corps Adopt-A-Platoon program. The items included snacks, toiletries, games and 800 pounds of linens, along with other everyday items.

DoSomething.org and Staples Inc. teamed up to collect school supplies for the Boys & Girls Club of Garden Grove. Staples donated more than $125,000 worth of school supplies to the group by customer donations.
