The annual gala of Alzheimer’s Association Orange County raised $255,000 to fund research, awareness and support for OC residents with Alzheimer’s.
About 300 people attended the event, held at Rancho Las Lomas in Silverado.
Jim McAleer, chief executive of Irvine-based Alzheimer’s Association OC, and longtime supporter Debi Dougher Pavlik co-chaired the fundraiser.
Those honored at the event for their support of the organization included Dorothy Dougher; Dave MacInnis; Susan Johnson, owner of Irvine-based Susan’s Healthy Gourmet and Xan Confections; and Mary Vavrik, team captain of Mary’s Marathoners for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser.
Sponsors included Dougher, Laguna Hills Estates LLC; Argyros Family Foundation, Pavlik and husband Tom Pavlik, Victor and Lia Assad, Irvine-based Parker Aerospace, Costa Mesa-based CardFlex Inc., Gateway One Lending & Finance in Anaheim, Kaiser Permanente, Newport Beach-based Vivante Enhanced Living of Nexus Cos. $100,000 in Scholarships
The 1221 Club Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Newport Beach-based Balboa Bay Club & Resort, recently awarded 11 scholarships totaling $100,000 to senior high school students within the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
Beverly Ray Parkhurst, former owner of the International Bay Club Inc., parent company of the resort, founded the scholarship-awarding foundation.

Golf Fundraiser
Saddleback Memorial Foundation’s fourth annual Corporate Golf Classic at the Mission Viejo Country Club raised nearly $90,000.
The money will benefit Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills and San Clemente, which is undertaking its first renovations since 1974.
Plans include additional private rooms and enhancements to patient rooms of the women’s hospital, main hospital, lobbies, atrium and gift shop.
Financial supporters of the tournament, which saw about 130 people play, included American Security Bank, Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water, Beacon Pointe Advisors, Bemus Landscape Inc., Blue Shield of California, California Anesthesia Associates and many others.
Homeless Help
Santa Ana-based Community Service Programs Inc. raised $50,000 at its annual golf tournament to help support children’s homeless shelters in Orange County.
The annual Swing for Kids event was held at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita.
Supporters included City National Bank, Cramer Decker Industries, Hackney Electric Inc., Jeff Hipshman, K2 General Contractors Inc., La Habra Fence Co., MAG-TROL Inc., Professional Electrical Contractors, Radiation Protection and Specialties Inc., Standard Drywall Inc., Sunrise Growers/Frozsun Foods, Swinerton Inc., Taber Co. Inc., Thin Air Networks, United Parcel Service of America Inc., and Universal Protection Service.
Habitat in Mongolia
Fourteen-year-old Ally Antis, an OC resident, is spending her summer helping build eco-friendly homes for families in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The home-building endeavor is part of the Habitat for Humanity’s Blue Sky Build program.
Ally is the daughter of Charles Antis, president of Irvine-based Antis Roofing & Waterproofing Inc.
Charles Antis, who also is a board member for Habitat for Humanity Orange County, will join Ally in Mongolia. His 22-year-old son Erek also will participate.

FB Campaign
Santa Ana-based Ingram Micro Inc. launched a Facebook campaign with a goal of raising $10,000 for the American Red Cross.
Ingram Micro will donate $1 to the Red Cross for every “Like” it receives on the Ingram Micro Facebook page.
The company also held a charity Olympic event on Aug. 3 to raise money for the Long Beach-based Special Olympics Southern California.
Team Endeavor
Rick Krost, owner of Huntington Beach-based U.S. Choppers, and Ed Evans, president of Rancho Santa Margarita-based Golden Spoon Franchising Inc., are sponsoring Team Endeavor, an off-road racing team, to raise awareness and funds for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
Krost and Evans founded Team Endeavor, which will be racing various venues this year, including the Bonneville Salt Flats in August.
Evans will race a Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 Stock Class in this year’s Baja 1000 race in Mexico as part of Team Endeavor.
Professional racers Valerie Thompson and Nigel Hook will be racing for team.
