One-Time Home of A-Team Co-Creator Sells for $20M

A Laguna Beach house once occupied by the co-creator of television shows such as “The A-Team” and “21 Jump Street” was sold earlier this month for $20 million.

The 4,710-square-foot house with four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms at 2125 Ocean Way in Laguna Beach changed hands for $20 million, according to Homes.com. The listing said one of the house’s two office spaces was used as a creative working space for Stephen J. Cannell.

Cannell was also a writer for “Columbo” and co-creator of “The Rockford Files.” He also wrote the “Shane Scully” novel series.

Public records show the house was most recently owned by the Cannell family. Cannell, the writer and television producer who founded his own production company and studio, was born in 1941 and died in 2010.

The property’s agents called the house “a true piece of coastal history.”

“This was the Cannell family’s cherished beachside estate, a place where creativity and coastal serenity came together,” according to the property’s listing.

2125 Ocean Way was sold by Shauna Covington of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, with Leita Covington as listing agent. Spencer Wall of Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty was the buyer’s agent.

The three-level house was built in 1947 on a 10,400-square-foot lot in the city’s Woods Cove neighborhood. Amenities included with the house are private gates, a stairway to the beach, outdoor grill, sauna and ocean views.

Also nearby is Laguna Village, home to art galleries, dining and shopping.

Woods Cove

The Woods Cove neighborhood in Laguna Beach is located where Ocean Way meets Diamond Street, near Ruby Street Park.

Homes.com described Woods Cove as a waterfront destination “known for its tide pools and bright blue waters.”

Woods Cove is known for its thatched-roof bungalows and cottages, many of which are custom-built or renovated with modern amenities, according to Homes.com.

The small Laguna Beach enclave is also known for its California palms and eucalyptus trees.

“Vintage properties that date back to the first half of the 20th century are typically Craftsman-style cottages with quintessential beach bungalow features like shingled siding and stone chimneys,” according to Homes.com.

“Other architectural styles in this neighborhood include Mediterranean-style and contemporary Craftsman builds that date from the 1970s through the 90s.”

Mike Johnson, a Laguna Beach resident and realtor with Compass, told Homes.com the Woods Cove area is attractive to a specific clientele.

“People really love Woods Cove because it’s got some of the most charming beach cottages,” he said on Homes.com.

“I mean a lot of people here—millionaires, even billionaires—they can afford to live in any house they want, but they still chose these 2,000-square-foot cottages in Woods Cove.”
