Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno is no longer exploring a sale of the baseball team, announcing Monday he has “unfinished business” with the team that he’s owned for nearly two decades.
Moreno announced the move on Monday via the team’s official Twitter account, indicating he will continue to own the team throughout the 2023 season “and beyond.”
“[We] still want to accomplish our goal of bringing a World Series Championship back to our fans,” Moreno said. “We are grateful to Galatioto Sports Partners for their outstanding efforts…that allowed us to meet with a number of highly qualified individuals and groups who expressed strong interest in the club.”
A sale of the team was expected to near $3 billion, reports indicate, a far cry from the $184 million that Moreno paid for the team in 2003 from The Walt Disney Co.
It’s unclear what Moreno’s move will mean for the Angel stadium land agreement, which was canceled last year in the wake of an FBI corruption probe over the negotiations.
