Defense company Anduril Industries today introduced Bolt, a series of lightweight, easily transportable vertical takeoff and landing drones for a variety of military missions.
Bolt, the base configuration, is designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance as well as search and rescue.
Bolt-M, the weapons version, is designed to “arm any ground force with lethal precision firepower, leveraging onboard software to automate the flight behaviors required to accurately track and strike a target, while providing human operators with four simple decisions: where to look, what to follow, how to engage, and when to strike.”
Anduril in a statement underscored the ease of transporting the units, calling them “man-packable” and “man-portable.”
The company in the statement, which was posted on its website, did not specify the price or the names of any customers for the new drone.
However, industry website Defense News said: “This second model of the drone (Bolt-M) is under contract with the Marine Corps on its Organic Precision Fires-Light program, trying to deliver loitering munitions small enough for troops to stash in a rucksack. Aerovironment and Teledyne FLIR are also competing for the program, worth up to $249 million.”
