Y & R; Takes Top Nod at Ad Club Awards

The Y & R; Cos. in Irvine took the top honor at Saturday’s Orange County Ad Club awards.
Y & R; won “the best of show” award for its “Count Down” series of ads for Land Rover North America, a Ford Motor Co. unit based in Irvine.
The award ceremony, an annual event that brings out the who’s who of the local ad industry, was held at the Santa Ana Performing Arts Center.
“Gold” award winners were: Santa Ana-based DGWB Advertising, Newport Beach-based Johnson Gray Advertising, Costa Mesa-based Marshall Advertising & Design, Irvine-based O’Leary & Partners and Santa Ana Heights-based P11 Creative.
A number of these same ad shops won “silver” awards, including O’Leary (17 awards), DGWB (12), Johnson Gray (seven) and Marshall Advertising (seven).
Others taking home silvers include Foote, Cone & Belding in Irvine (seven awards), Santa Ana-based Brainsaw (five) and Laguna Beach-based Spasmodic (two).
Chuck Roberts, an ad industry veteran, took home the Cochran Chase Lifetime Achievement Award.
Among his career highlights: helping expand Roberts, Mearler and Associates from six people to 30 with $17 million in billings.
Roberts, Mealer eventually became part of the T & O; Group, now O’Leary & Partners. Roberts owns R & R; AdVentures Unlimited, a consulting firm.
