Indicted Newport Beach financier Danny Pang had traces of drugs in his system when he died, the Wall Street Journal is reporting.
Pang, who died last weekend while battling allegations of a massive fraud, showed traces of barbiturates and the active ingredient of marijuana, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person close to the investigation.
An official at the Orange County coroner’s office told the Journal that any preliminary reports of drug use are “irrelevant” pending final toxicology that could take two months to complete.
Pang’s lawyer, David Schindler, said the family was told by Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian that he died of a heart attack.
Suicide speculation is “offensive,” Schindler told the Journal.
