Shares of Lake Forest-based disk drive maker Western Digital slumped more than 7% Wednesday on concerns about a maker of components for the company’s drives.
San Jose-based Komag Inc. said it sees quarterly sales coming in lower than previously expected.
Komag supplies thin-film media for drives made by Western Digital and key rival Seagate Technology.
Shares of Komag closed down 13% on the news.
Bear Stearns analyst Andrew J. Neff called Komag’s guidance “incrementally negative” for Western Digital and Seagate.
