Volcom Inc. in Costa Mesa picked agency vet Lyndsey Roach as its global head of women’s business, a new position.
Roach in 2012 co-founded the Box Creative Agency, a Costa Mesa-based public relations, marketing and creative agency that specializes in brand strategy and product launches. She also served as vice president of women’s marketing at Hurley, where she directed global marketing initiatives. Box Creative’s clients include Nike Inc., Skinmedica, Volcom, Nixon and Hurley.
“I am excited to create this role within Volcom because our women’s business represents an untapped opportunity worldwide,” said Chief Executive Todd Hymel. “Having Lyndsey take on this leadership role at the executive level will ensure that we have a global vision on our women’s business all day, every day.”
Centennial Celebration
Newport Beach & Co. created a new brand identity for Balboa Island merchants to celebrate the island’s heritage and upcoming centennial.
The new red, white and blue official logo “pays homage to the iconic bridge, which serves as the gateway to the island’s historic Marine Avenue … (and) is reminiscent of the famous cottage plates, which can be found in shops along the island,” according to the nonprofit organization, which was established to serve as the official marketing agency for the city of Newport Beach.
Balboa Island also has a new mobile-responsive website, ExploreBalboaIsland.com.
“Last year, Newport Beach & Company became official partners with Balboa Island Marketing Inc., with a shared goal to create consistent Newport Beach brand messaging across our distinctive neighborhoods while promoting the qualities that make each of them one of a kind,” President and Chief Executive Gary Sherwin said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing our strategic partnership to promote Newport Beach, Balboa Island and its ten unique neighborhoods to the millions of visitors we welcome each year, as well as our 80,000 residents.”
Leads to Awards
Autobytel Inc. in Irvine said it has been named No. 1 for used car advertising in 2015 by DrivingSales Vendor Ratings.
The vendor rating forum features “real-time peer reviews and competitor comparisons” from “customers who have hands-on experience using vendor products/solutions.”
“Founded by a former car dealer, Autobytel’s products and services have always been—and will continue to be—designed to help dealers sell more cars,” President and Chief Executive Jeff Coats said in a statement. “This award means that our new and used car programs are now recognized as the best-of-the-best by the dealer community at DrivingSales.”
Autobytel, which has a market value of about $187 million, was recently named a Gold New Vehicle Lead Provider by Auto Dealer Monthly in the 2015 Dealers’ Choice Awards, and received the award for Highest Rated New Car Leads in the DrivingSales Dealer Satisfaction Awards last year.
Blue C for Group Y
The Blue C marketing agency hosted the “Group Y Master Series: Experience” last month at its headquarters in Costa Mesa. The event focused on marketing and advertising in the “experience economy” and was presented by Group Y and the UCLA Anderson OC alumni chapter.
The speakers, including Los Angeles-based agency BeCore’s Kelly Vaught, talked about the difference between exposure and experience and how millennials are supporting the experience-driven economy rather than the product-driven economy. That generation values lasting experiences more than ever before, and brands and the marketers behind them are actively seeking ways to tap into that need, according to Blue C.
