Visit Anaheim Starts Show

Visit Anaheim plans to hold its first Sports Express show at the Wyndham Anaheim Garden Grove Jan. 11 to 13. The event will draw 15 to 20 sports event organizers and meeting planners, plus attendees from local hotels and cities.

It was created by the marketer’s Sports Anaheim division, which said it will be an annual draw if the first year goes well.

“It’s a way for us to get organizers to come see the destination,” said Junior Tauvaa, senior vice president of sales and services for Visit Anaheim, which markets Anaheim and Garden Grove for tourism and business.

Sports Express includes a charity poker tournament with ex-Los Angeles Rams running back Eric Dickerson, ex-Angels pitcher Chuck Finley, and others. The Jan. 11 tourney has a $500 buy-in to benefit the Young Warriors Foundation in Woodland Hills, which helps fatherless boys ages 10 to 18.
